Chamber Announces Financial Literacy Week

The Brooks and District Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with Meyers Norris Penny (MNP) and RBC Royal Bank to make Financial Literacy Week a reality in Brooks and the Region of Newell.

“When MNP put out a study that showed 42% of Albertans are just $200 away from not being able to pay their bills each month, we knew we had to act” said Kyle Franz, Director of Member Relations at the Chamber. “After all, how can folks invest in their community by shopping locally, buying their first house or saving for retirement if they have no money?” he added.

To that end, the Chamber has teamed up with MNP and RBC to offer the following one-hour masterclasses. They are free of charge and open to the public:

Monday Jan 15:          Bankruptcy and Consumer Proposals

Tuesday Jan 16:          How to Budget in the Real World

Wednesday Jan 17:     Saving for Retirement

Thursday Jan 18:         How to use Credit Responsibly

Friday Jan 19:             Buying your Frist Home

The courses will run twice each day, from 12 noon – 1pm at the Chamber of Commerce office and from 6-7pm at the SPEC Association.

The Chamber wants to thank MNP and RBC Royal Bank for stepping up to the plate and providing the funding and instructors for these important masterclasses. More information available by calling the office or emailing membership@brookschamber.ab.ca
