Chamber Petitions City for Budget Transparency

The Brooks and District Chamber of Commerce has launched a petition in support of its bid for greater transparency in municipal budgeting

Our Councilors are elected to represent the people of Brooks, said Sarah Bisbee, President Elect of the Chamber. “If the taxpayers do not have an opportunity to provide input on the budget before it is passed, Council is failing to be accountable and transparent. The Chamber is proud to fulfill its mandate by petitioning for transparency” she added.

The Chamber has sent an Open Letter to council seeking transparency in the budgeting process. In past years Council okay’s the administration’s budget and adopts it in one meeting. This means that the folks who pay the bills at City Hall don’t have the chance to let their elected officials know how they feel about the budget before its past.

“Members of the Business Community are busy often can’t get away from their businesses to attend City Council Meetings,” said Kyle Franz, Director of Member Relations at the Chamber. “This petition is a great way for folks to let City Hall know they are behind the Chamber’s request for budget transparency.”
