Chamber Invites Federal Finance Minister to Brooks

The Brooks and District Chamber of Commerce has invited Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau to speak to our Members on his proposed change to federal taxes.

We are getting a lot of mixed messages from the Federal Government, said Kyle Franz, Director of Member Relations at the Chamber. People are worried – our members are worried – so we have invited Minister Morneau to explain his changes to folk in person.

A major source of confusion is the taxation of employee benefits. In early October Minister Morneau indicated that the Federal Government would be taxing employee benefits. This promise was later walked back by the Prime Minister who said “Let me be blunt. We are not taxing anyone’s employee benefits.” Problem is that the Canada Revenue Agency’s webpage indicates the issue is still under consideration.

The Chamber looks forward to welcoming Minister Morneau to Brooks and getting clarity for our Members and members of our communities.
